Manchuria
Changchun, a city in Manchuria, found itself at the intersection of the Chinese Civil War between the Kuo Min Tang and the Communists, and at the same time, the war between the Japanese and the Russians. No side made much effort to protect civilians. Hundreds of thousands of civilians starved because all sides prioritized giving food to their soldiers.
Pharmacist Father
Her father was a pharmacist, who also manufactured drugs. He was a wonderful man in his personal life, helping many people escape the war.
Stranded
When World War II, ended a million Japanese citizens found themselves stranded in Manchuria. She describes how her family was able to escape Manchuria and return to Japan.
