Unholy Trinity: The Vatican, The Nazis, and The Swiss Banks by Mark Aarons and John Loftus, St. Martin's Griffin, 1998 (Revised edition).
Croatia and the Ustasha
Croatia was a Roman Catholic part of Yugoslavia. A nationalist political organization called the Ustasha gained political power in the months before the Nazis invaded Yugoslavia. After the Nazis invaded, the Ustasha collaborated with the Nazis. The Ustasha helped the Nazis kill Jews and Gypsies. On their own, the Ustasha committed genocide against the Serbs. After the end of World War II, the Vatican sheltered Ustasha war criminals on their escape route to South America.
The Ratline
The Ratline was organized by Father Krunoslav Dragoanović. Draganović was Vice President of the Ustashi’s Committee for Colonisation when in Zagreb. Draganović was sent to Rome as the Ustashi’s representative to the Vatican. Father Cecelia helped Ustashi war criminals in Austria obtain false papers to travel to Italy.
Way Station
The Ustashi war criminals were housed in the Brotherhood of San Girolamo Monastery in Rome. In Rome, Draganović furnished the Ustashi criminals with international travel documents. Father Dominik Mandic helped print identity papers for the Ustashi priests. Frater Dragutin Kamber was a member of the Ratline and had previously been commandant of the Doboj concentration camp where many Serbs were ordered killed
